The attack of herdsmen on Yelwata community in Guma local Government Area of Benue State has left families with huge loss of loved ones
The unfortunate Friday night attack on June 13 till June 14 on Saturday saw about 200 dead from confirmed reports.
One of the victim of the attack Tsegba Gbam Ayua lost his wife and four children. The grieving father said, I had been displaced from Ayua in Nassarawa State for over two years and was taking refuge with my family in Yelwata. A few days before the attack I traveled back to Nassarawa for jobs so I could support my family". Ayua told dailytrust in Makurdi, June 15.
"Then around 11pm on Friday, I got a call that our host community was under attack. I rushed back early Saturday morning only to find the worst nightmare of my life. My wife and four children had been burned to ashes inside the market stalls where they were sleeping. Over 100 corpses were recovered in the area".
He confirmed that his slain family were buried same day and now struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Another victim of the attack, Prince Aondona Isaka Oroguga told dailytrust that the attack took at least 23 members of his family.
Oroguga is a former senior special assistant to ex-govornor Samuel Or Tom on local government administration said all the 23 members of his family are from her maternal lineage.
He said, "Iormba one of the victim is a pharmacist. He had a tall dream but look at how it all end for them. And for Utim, this is not what we discussed, Ornguga lamented.
One of the survival of the attack, mama Victoria Tyobee, said she still could not fathom how she escaped the onslaught from the armed men. But I later discovered that three of my relatives were not so fortunate.
