In a major drug bust near Mumbai, a Nigerian national identified as Etumudon Doris has been arrested with illegal narcotics valued at over ₹36 crore (approx) about N6Million at Panvel Railway Station.
The operation was the result of a joint effort between the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Panvel, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Bengaluru, and the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) Kurla, Mumbai, following a tip-off about a potential smuggling attempt.
Authorities received intelligence that a suspect aboard the Hazrat Nizamuddin–Ernakulam Mangala Express could be transporting narcotics. The train was scheduled to arrive at Panvel Station on Friday, July 19, 2025.
Acting swiftly, a surveillance team was deployed at Platform 7, where they located a woman traveling with an infant. She identified herself as Etumudon Doris and claimed the child was hers.
Upon questioning, officials said the woman admitted to carrying drugs. She was escorted to the RPF post for further inspection. A search of her multicoloured travel bag revealed two rectangular packages marked “VINTAGE.”
Testing confirmed the contents were 2.002 kg of cocaine and an additional 1.488 kg of methamphetamine.
Murari Lal, Junior Intelligence Officer with NCB Bengaluru, officially took charge of the confiscated substances. Doris has been taken into custody, and authorities say a full investigation is now underway to uncover the network behind the smuggling attempt.
The arrest marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle international drug trafficking operations in India.
