Sweden’s New Health Minister Collapses During First Press Briefing
Sweden’s new health minister, Elisabet Lann, gave the public a scare on Tuesday, September 9, after collapsing during her very first press conference in Stockholm.
The dramatic moment was captured on video as Lann had just finished her remarks. While other speakers were sharing a laugh, she suddenly slumped, causing her lectern to topple as security officials and colleagues rushed to her aid.
Lann later returned to the stage and explained that her collapse was due to low blood sugar. “I fainted midway because of a drop in my blood sugar levels,” she told reporters after regaining her composure.
Her appointment as health minister came only a day earlier, following the unexpected resignation of her predecessor, Acko Ankarberg Johansson. Before stepping into the national role, Lann had served as a municipal councilor in Gothenburg.
The incident, though unsettling, ended without major health concerns, and Lann assured Swedes she was fine after the brief scare.
