Akon arrested in Georgia over suspended license case

Akon was arrested in Georgia after a bench warrant surfaced over a suspended license issue he allegedly failed to clear.

American-Senegalese singer Akon found himself in police custody last week after authorities in Georgia picked him up on a bench warrant linked to an old traffic issue.

According to newly released documents, the matter dates back to September when Akon was driving a Tesla Cybertruck in Georgia.

Police on patrol reportedly spotted the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. Akon, who was behind the wheel, told officers the battery had died.

While arranging for a tow truck, officers ran his details and discovered that his driver’s license had been suspended due to a failure to appear in court since January 2023. He was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and allowed to leave the scene.

Police also mentioned recovering what they described as an “illegal vape” from the car's center console, which they logged for destruction.

Fast-forward to November 7, authorities in DeKalb County confirmed that Akon was arrested on the outstanding warrant. He was taken into custody by officers from the Chamblee Police Department and booked into jail. However, he regained his freedom within six hours.

The exact details of the warrant remain unclear, as officials have not provided further explanation.

Akon, whose full name is Aliaune Thiam, had his mugshot taken during the brief detention, appearing in a black hoodie and showing little expression.

Efforts to get comments from his team have so far yielded no response.
