Tragic news in Abia as an Immigration officer is allegedly killed by his wife over claims of cheating and medical bills
A dark cloud has fallen over the Umuihi community in Umuahia North, Abia State, following the tragic death of an Immigration officer, allegedly at the hands of his wife.
The officer, identified as Chidiebere James, was reportedly stabbed during a heated domestic dispute in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026. The incident has left the local Umuogba Ekeoba kingdom in deep mourning.
According to reports, the trouble began on Sunday. The couple allegedly had a fierce argument regarding funds for their sick child’s medical treatment.
The situation spiraled out of control when the wife reportedly discovered "incriminating" text messages on her husband's phone, leading to accusations of infidelity.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday. He noted that she is currently being interrogated at the State CID as the police build a murder case.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia. Even the traditional ruler of the Ekeoba Ancient Kingdom, HRH Iheanyi Nwokenna, expressed his shock, stating he was only just briefed on the incident after returning from a trip.
This heartbreaking event has sparked a conversation among residents about the rising tide of domestic violence. Many are calling for better ways to resolve marital conflicts before they turn into irreversible tragedies.
