Enugu Police Arrest Mother, Daughter Over Relative's Murder

Police investigation in Enugu State following the arrest of two women over the murder of an elderly relative in Nsukka.

Residents of Ezema Nru in the Nsukka area of Enugu State have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a 70-year-old woman. The victim, fondly called Mama Oliver, was allegedly killed by her own relatives.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Loretta Asadu and her daughter, Chikamso, on Wednesday night.

According to the police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe who reported to punch, an investigation has already started to get to the bottom of the matter.

Mama Oliver was an indigene of Umabor-Ehalumona but had moved to Ezema Nru for a selfless reason. She was there to care for Loretta and Chikamso, both of whom were reportedly battling mental health challenges.

The incident, which happened on Tuesday, February 24, has left the community in total disbelief. Neighbors say the elderly woman had complained of being hungry shortly before she was attacked.

A source close to the family revealed that Loretta’s son, Abumchukwu, had gone out to buy food for the old woman. Before leaving, he reportedly restrained his mother because she was acting violently.

However, while he was away, Chikamso allegedly untied her mother. The two women then turned on Mama Oliver, accusing her of stealing their money. They dragged her behind the house and used dangerous weapons to hack her to death.

Those living in the area described the deceased as a very peaceful person who did not deserve such a violent end. The entire neighborhood is currently heavy with grief over the heartbreaking news.

The police have deposited the body of the 70-year-old in a mortuary in Nsukka, where an autopsy will be carried out as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.
