A dark cloud has fallen over the Abuja music scene following the sudden and heartbreaking death of Ifunanya Nwangene, a gifted soprano singer.
Ifunanya, a key member of the well-known Amemuso Choir, lost her life on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
According to reports, she passed away at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abuja after battling the effects of a snake bite.
The news was officially confirmed in a statement released on Sunday afternoon by the choir’s Music Director, Sam Ezugwu. The announcement left many in the FCT’s creative circles in shock, as Ifunanya was regarded as one of the city's most promising voices.
The choir described her as a "rising star" who was just on the verge of breaking into a larger spotlight.
Her colleagues noted that she had so much more to give the world before her life was tragically cut short.
"Her voice and spirit will be deeply missed," the statement read, as the group mourned the loss of a singer they described as having an incredible talent.
