A Zimbabwean court has jailed 21-year-old Gift Ncube for 40 years after a horrific assault on an 81-year-old woman.
A Bulawayo Regional Magistrate’s Court has sent a 21-year-old man, Gift Ncube, to prison for 40 years. This follows his conviction for the brutal assault of an 81-year-old woman during a home invasion.
The incident, which has left the Hope Fountain community in shock, happened in the early hours of February 15, 2026. Ncube reportedly broke into the elderly woman’s house through a window around 3:00 am.
Once inside, he threatened to kill the defenseless woman before raping her twice, first in her sitting room and later in her bedroom.
In a strange twist of events, the attacker fell into a deep sleep in the victim's bed after the assault. This gave the brave woman a chance to escape and alert her neighbors.
The neighbors responded quickly and caught Ncube while he was still naked and asleep. They performed a citizen’s arrest and handed him over to the police, who confirmed the break-in.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) described the attack as a "grave violation." They urged the public to do more to protect the elderly and vulnerable in society.
The court ruled that Ncube would serve two 20-year sentences consecutively. This means he will spend the next four decades behind bars for his crimes.
