Anambra Police Charge Two Suspects in N8m Theft and Employer’s Murder

A 21-year-old domestic staff and his accomplice were remanded for the murder of an employer and the theft of eight million Naira in Onitsha.

ONITSHA (Obgist) — Two suspects were arraigned before the High Court in Onitsha on Wednesday following the gruesome murder of an employer, Mr. Ikechukwu Simon Nwite. The proceedings were initiated by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) attached to the Anambra State Police Command.

A 21-year-old prime suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, was charged with using a pestle to strike the deceased on the head. The attack, which occurred in the Fegge area of Onitsha, resulted in the immediate death of the victim. Anieke was also linked to a separate assault on one Ogechukwu Nwite during the commission of the crime.

The theft of over N8 million belonging to the deceased was allegedly facilitated by a second suspect, Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, also aged 21. It was stated by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, that Nwokporo provided the bank account through which the fraudulent transfer of the funds was executed.

The sum of N6 million was successfully recovered by police operatives. This amount has been tendered as an exhibit in the ongoing legal proceedings.
