Gunmen abducted Kibiya LGA Secretary Hamza Durba in Kano after tricking him into opening his door during a late-night raid on his home.
The Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area in Kano State, Hon. Hamza Musa Durba, has been kidnapped by bandits.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 20, 2026, at his residence in Dinya town.
The Speaker of the Council, Hon. Sabo Yusuf Usman, disclosed that the attackers struck around 1:00 a.m. while the household was asleep. He explained that the gunmen used a deceptive tactic to lure the victim out of his room.
They reportedly woke the secretary’s son, who was sleeping in the outer compound, and forced him to knock on his father’s door. The boy was made to claim he had a stomach ache.
Concerned for his son, Durba opened the door, only to be seized by the waiting attackers.
While the abductors released the son shortly after the seizure, they fled the scene with the secretary before security operatives could arrive.
Although Kibiya has been relatively peaceful, neighbouring communities near the Katsina border have witnessed a surge in banditry. Authorities are yet to comment on the ongoing rescue efforts.
