Singer Liya breaks silence on her departure from DMW, citing depression and the need for personal growth as key reasons.
Nigerian singer Liya has finally opened up about the real reasons behind her exit from Davido Music Worldwide. She described her departure as a necessary step to save herself from a declining state of mind.
The artist, who made history as the first female signee under DMW in 2020, left the label in 2023. While fans speculated on the split, Liya has now set the record straight.
Speaking on the show Wahala with Josy Anne, she admitted that her journey with the label was emotionally draining. She battled severe depression and exhaustion, which took a toll on her physical health.
Liya explained that she reached a point where she had to choose herself. She wanted more for her life and career, even though making that choice was painful.
For a long time, the public criticized her silence and lack of output. She recalled how people labeled her lazy and accused the label of wasting resources on her.
The singer revealed that the pressure was so intense that she abandoned her own social media life. For over two years, her manager handled her Instagram account because she could not cope with the online space.
Despite the dark period, she expressed deep gratitude to her manager for his patience. Liya noted that he never forced her to work during her low moments. She is now focused on rebuilding her path following hits like "Melo" and "Lakiriboto."
