Grieving residents in Kwara reject Tinubu relief items, demanding the rescue of abducted family members after the deadly terror attack.
Tension remains high in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. A government delegation recently arrived with relief materials, but they were met with outright rejection. The residents were visibly angry, describing the items as an insult to their pain.
The delegation had brought mats, buckets, and school bags in an ambulance. They claimed the government sent these to help families affected by a recent terrorist attack. However, the community refused to accept them.
In a video obtained by reporters, the residents made their grievances known. They argued that their primary need is not household items. Their demand is for security and the safe return of their loved ones.
"We don’t need these things," one resident said. "What we want is security and the return of our people."
The community is still mourning a devastating attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. Reports indicate that over 200 people were killed during the incident. Furthermore, at least 176 women and children were abducted.
The situation is dire. Many of the hostages are wives and children of those killed in the massacre. This double tragedy has left the community broken and desperate.
This rejection comes shortly after a disturbing video surfaced online. The footage showed the abducted victims pleading for help. They looked weak and exhausted in the footage released by their captors.
A terrorist in the video gave the authorities a "final opportunity" to respond. The victims, including pregnant women and children, begged for urgent intervention in English and Yoruba.
For now, the people of Woro insist they do not need palliatives. They want their family members back home alive.
