Security Operatives Storm INEC HQ Amid ADC Crisis

Security forces have sealed off the INEC headquarters in Abuja following the controversial delisting of ADC national leaders.

There is a tense atmosphere at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja. Security operatives have taken over the area, blocking all roads leading to the building.

Officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services were deployed early on Thursday morning.

Their presence is a direct response to the controversy surrounding the removal of the African Democratic Congress leadership from the commission’s portal.

On Wednesday, INEC delisted David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the National Chairman and Secretary of the ADC. The commission also refused to recognize rival faction leader Nafiu Bala Gombe.

This decision sparked outrage among party members. Over two thousand angry protesters gathered at the Maitama office shortly after the announcement.

Political groups, including the ADC and the Obidient Movement, had planned a massive protest tagged 'Occupy INEC' for Thursday. The heavy security deployment appears to be a move to prevent the demonstration from escalating.

INEC has stated it will not recognize any faction until the court decides on the substantive leadership tussle.
