Bandits attacked Yashikira in Kwara State, abducting the emir's family and burning the palace in a violent early morning raid.
Fear has gripped the ancient town of Yashikira in Kwara State. Armed bandits have stormed the community, leaving a trail of devastation behind.
The invasion happened in the early hours of Sunday, May 24. Residents were fast asleep when the gunmen struck without warning.
Around 15 heavily armed suspects reportedly fired gunshots into the air to cause panic. They easily overpowered local vigilantes and operated freely for hours without any security resistance.
The attackers first targeted the emir's palace. They set parts of the royal building on fire before kidnapping the emir's wife and children. Several other women and local residents were also dragged away by the assailants.
Terrified locals had no choice but to run into nearby bushes for safety. A community member explained that the entire town is now in confusion, with families desperately searching for their missing loved ones.
This tragic attack comes just 72 hours after another violent incident in the area. Gunmen had previously attacked a prayer house, killed three people, and kidnapped several others.
