A young Nigerian man has lost his life in a violent stabbing incident in Madrid, Spain.
The 20-year-old, identified simply as D.O., was attacked early on Tuesday morning. The tragedy unfolded around 7:15 a.m. on May 5, 2026, at Paraíso Park located on Alberique Street in the San Blas district.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim and a 38-year-old Moroccan man got into a heated argument. Moments later, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the young Nigerian twice in the chest.
National Police officers were the first to arrive at the scene. They found the victim bleeding heavily and immediately started CPR to save his life.
Medics from Samur-Proteccion Civil arrived shortly after to take over the resuscitation efforts. For 30 minutes, emergency workers fought to keep him alive. Sadly, they eventually confirmed there was nothing more they could do.
Witnesses at the park recognized the attacker without a doubt. They described him as a homeless individual who uses drugs.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Police tracked him down an hour later on Emilio Ferrari Street. He was found covered in blood, though the murder weapon was no longer on him.
What sparked this deadly confrontation? Investigators believe the two men argued over a narcotics-related issue, according to reports from the Spanish newspaper, El País.
This park is no stranger to violence. El País notes that the area has witnessed several violent episodes in recent years. It is widely known as a gathering spot for people dealing with drug addiction.
Forensic teams are currently working at the scene to piece together exactly what happened.
