President Tinubu appoints Prof Segun Aina as new JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

Aina will take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who rounds off his two-term tenure on July 31, 2026. Interestingly, the incoming registrar will also celebrate his 40th birthday in July.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced the appointment on Thursday.

The presidency described Aina as an academic and systems expert. He brings a wealth of experience in digital infrastructure, public sector reforms, and national examination systems.

His academic credentials are quite impressive. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent.

He also earned a Master's degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, alongside a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

Currently a Computer Engineering professor at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina actually started his career at JAMB during his National Youth Service.

That early stint gave him a solid foundation in data-driven processes and admissions reform. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

The new registrar is a registered member of several professional bodies. These include COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE, and IET.

President Tinubu expects Aina to bring his vast knowledge to the job. The goal is to strengthen JAMB's operations and build on the achievements of his predecessor.
