FUPRE student stabbed to death by brother Joshua over slippers in Hostel C Tuesday, Delta police confirm incident.
Effurun, Delta State — A quiet Tuesday evening at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources turned tragic after a 100-level student was allegedly killed by his own brother inside the school hostel.
Sources told SaharaReporters the incident happened at Hostel C on the FUPRE campus. What started as a minor disagreement over a pair of bathroom slippers quickly spiralled out of control.
The two students involved are biological brothers and both are in their first year at the university. Fellow students identified the suspect simply as Joshua.
Witnesses said the brothers began arguing loudly in their room. In the heat of the moment, Joshua allegedly grabbed an empty bottle and stabbed his sibling. The blow caused serious injuries.
Other hostel residents rushed the victim out for emergency care, but doctors later confirmed him dead. His body has since been moved to the mortuary.
The news spread fast across campus. Students who knew the brothers described the scene as shocking and painful, especially because it began over something so small.
Joshua reportedly fled Hostel C immediately after the attack. As of Wednesday, he was still on the run and security operatives were said to be searching for him.
The university management had not released an official statement at the time of this report. Campus security officials are also yet to brief the press.
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing. Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the incident is under investigation.
“The cause of the murder has not yet been ascertained, but the incident has been confirmed,” Edafe said.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspect and establish the full circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
