In Kogi Woman Arrested Over Alleged Murder Of Co-Wife In Ijoka

Tension gripped Ijoka community in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State after a domestic dispute turned fatal.

A Fulani woman identified as Khadijat has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her co-wife, Ramatu, to death. The incident happened in the bush area of the community.

The case reportedly occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2026. At the time, members of the family were in the bush harvesting palm kernels.

The arrest was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, by a presenter with Ankpa Radio-Television. The presenter made the confirmation in a video that has since circulated.

How It Happened

Speaking in an earlier video, the husband of the two women, Jibrin, narrated how he got the news.

He said he received a call around 4 pm that day about a problem involving his wives and other family members.

According to him, Ramatu had raised an alarm and cried for help while the attack was going on.

Her cries attracted other family members who were harvesting palm kernels in another part of the same bush.

Jibrin explained that when they tried to rush to where the shouting came from, Khadijat allegedly stopped them. She reportedly told them not to enter the area, claiming it was not safe.

Confused by the situation, the family members then contacted him.

By the time they eventually got to the spot, Khadijat had already fled. Ramatu was found lying with multiple stab injuries. She had already died.

Family Speaks On Past Dispute

Jibrin said all circumstances at the scene pointed to Khadijat as the alleged attacker.

He revealed that the two co-wives had a disagreement some weeks before the incident happened.

The family, he said, did not think the quarrel was serious. They never imagined it could lead to violence.

He believes Khadijat may have kept the grievance in mind until the fatal encounter in the bush.

After Ramatu’s body was found, community members took her to the traditional leader. The traditional ruler then alerted the security agencies.

Community Tension And Appeal For Peace

The incident caused serious tension in Ijoka. Residents demanded to know exactly what happened.

Jibrin was quick to clarify the situation to avoid communal misunderstanding.

He stressed that the killing was allegedly a result of an internal family dispute. It was not an attack by the host community.

He said he has informed members of the Fulani community in neighbouring Benue and Nasarawa States about the incident. He appealed to them to help locate Khadijat if she is seen in their areas.

He also told his own people that the host Igala community should not be blamed for what happened.

Security authorities are said to have taken over the matter as investigation continues.
