Former Kogi Governor Ibrahim Idris dies at 77 in UK, Governor Ododo and Yahaya Bello mourn

Former Governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.

Reports gathered that the ex-governor passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom.

Details surrounding his death are yet to be made public as of press time.

The late Idris was a prominent figure in Kogi politics. He served as governor for two terms, from 2003 to 2012.

Following the news of his passing, top government officials paid a condolence visit to his family.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello were among those who visited his Abuja residence on Sunday to commiserate with the family.

They were joined by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials.

The visit was disclosed in a statement issued by Onogwu Muhammed. He is the former Chief Press Secretary to Yahaya Bello and Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Public Relations.

In the statement, Muhammed said, “Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello, CON, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, and other top government officials have arrived at the Abuja residence of the late former Governor Ibrahim Idris, who passed away this afternoon.”

The Kogi State Government is expected to announce burial arrangements in the coming days.
