A deadly blast shook Konduga town in Borno State on the night of Friday, June 20, killing at least ten people at a busy local eatery.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso confirmed that a suicide bomber had attacked the crowd around 10 p.m. He said investigations are ongoing and that details are still emerging. Security teams, including bomb disposal units and the military, quickly arrived at the scene.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the blast may have killed up to 24 people and injured many others. He believes a female suicide bomber was behind the attack, noting that only her head was recovered.
The area has been secured by a team made up of police, military, local hunters, and the Civilian Joint Task Force. No additional explosives were found, and calm has returned to the area.
Wounded victims were taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment. The hospital is also helping confirm the identities of those who died, so their families can carry out burial rites.
