Pig Heads at Paris Mosques Trigger Muslim OutrageTension rose in Paris on Tuesday, September 9, after pig heads were discovered outside several mosques — an act authorities have described as a direct insult to Muslims.
France, which hosts the largest Muslim community in Europe with over six million people, considers pigs impure in Islamic faith. The disturbing incident has since triggered anger and swift condemnation.
Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez confirmed the discovery, describing it as a “despicable act” while assuring that a full-scale investigation has been launched to track down those responsible.
According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, pig heads were placed in front of at least two mosques within the capital, one more outside the city, and another inside a suitcase near a mosque in northern Paris.
At one site, the word “Macron” was scrawled in blue a likely reference to President Emmanuel Macron, who is currently battling political and economic pressure at home.
The police have now opened an investigation into incitement to hatred aggravated by discrimination.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau also condemned the incident, stressing that Muslims in France deserve to practice their faith without fear.
“I want our Muslim compatriots to live their religion in peace,” he said. “I fully understand their pain.”
The case has further stirred debate about growing religious intolerance in France, a country already grappling with rising tensions around faith and identity.
