Whoopi Goldberg had a message for viewers on Monday — loud, clear, and straight to the point: “Nobody silences The View.”
Opening the latest episode of the popular daytime talk show, Goldberg addressed the chatter surrounding ABC’s suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and why the panel had not weighed in earlier.
“Did y’all really think we weren’t going to talk about Jimmy Kimmel? Have you watched this show over the last 29 seasons? No one silences us,” Goldberg said, looking directly into the camera.
She explained that the show had deliberately waited before commenting on the controversy. “When the news broke last week about Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, we took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first,” she said. “We did the same thing when CBS announced The Late Show With Stephen Colbert might be canceled.”
Goldberg didn’t stop there. She called out the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), insisting that while a network may choose to discipline its stars, the government cannot pressure them to silence voices.
Co-host Ana Navarro also weighed in, commending fans for holding the show accountable and demanding honesty from its panel. Navarro criticized the use of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in the debate, pointing out the irony of using a “free speech advocate” as a tool to silence someone else.
Kimmel’s late-night show was placed on an indefinite break after he made controversial remarks about Kirk’s alleged killer. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr warned ABC to take action against Kimmel or face government intervention. Later in the week, Carr also hinted that The View could face scrutiny if it addressed the topic, a move that sparked outrage online.
In response, Hollywood has rallied behind Kimmel. More than 400 celebrities and public figures have signed an open letter defending his right to free speech and calling out what they describe as an attack on press freedom.
For Goldberg, the message was simple: The View won’t be cowed into silence. “We say what we say. That’s who we are,” she concluded.
