Panic in Enugu as Suspected Kidnappers Attack Motorists
There was panic along the Ugwuogo Nike–Opi–Nsukka road in Enugu State on Friday evening after suspected kidnappers reportedly laid siege to motorists.
A disturbing video that surfaced on social media showed scenes of chaos as travellers abandoned their vehicles and fled for safety. The attack, which happened around 7 p.m., brought traffic to a halt on the busy route that links Nsukka to other parts of the state.
An eyewitness identified on X (formerly Twitter) as Chuks shared the footage, revealing that the armed men operated freely until soldiers intervened.
“Kidnappers were operating along Ugwuogo Nike by Opi, Nsukka, around 7 p.m. Police officers on duty reportedly fled for their lives until the Nigerian Army arrived,” the post read.
Residents say the area has become increasingly unsafe, with several reports of similar incidents in recent weeks. However, security agencies are yet to release an official statement on Friday’s attack.
The situation has renewed public calls for stronger security presence and better patrol coordination along major highways in Enugu State.
