Journalist Dies After 80ft Fall From Crumbling Argentina Cliff

Journalist Leticia Lembi dies after an 80ft fall from a crumbling cliff in Argentina while trying to take a scenic photograph.

A young Argentine journalist has died after falling from a deteriorating cliff staircase while trying to take a photograph at a popular beauty spot.

Leticia Lembi, 33, reportedly slipped from a worn-out concrete platform at Barranca de Los Lobos in Mar del Plata on Wednesday, November 26.

Witnesses said she was visiting the area with family and friends when the tragic incident unfolded.

Authorities explained that she was standing on an old staircase leading down to the beach when she lost her balance and plunged about 25 metres onto the rocks below.

Emergency responders, firefighters, paramedics, and police rushed to the scene but could do little. She was pronounced dead on arrival.

Rescue teams later retrieved her body from the base of the cliff as the tide continued to rise. Officials said the impact was instantly fatal.

Prosecutor Carlos Russo, who visited the site, has classified the case as an accidental death, according to reports from El País.

Hours before the fall, Leticia had shared cheerful photos from a vineyard roughly 10 miles away, joking about “playing the wine woman” during her visit to Costa&Pampa, Argentina’s first ocean winery.

Originally from Tres Arroyos, about 170 miles from the site of the incident, Leticia held a degree in Journalism and Social Communication from the National University of La Plata.

She also worked as a digital marketer and previously served as a correspondent for La Voz del Pueblo in 2020.

A promising life cut short in a heartbreaking moment at a place she only wanted to photograph.
