Tragedy struck in Lagos on Monday after a soldier on duty at a checkpoint was shot dead by a mentally unstable man in the Agbowa area along the Ikorodu expressway.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the man, believed to be mentally challenged, suddenly grabbed the soldier’s rifle during routine checks and opened fire, killing him on the spot.

A police officer familiar with the incident confirmed the development, saying it occurred at the Adeogun Bridge section of Agbowa.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls were neither answered nor returned.
