Super Eagles Rise to 38th in Latest FIFA World Rankings

Super Eagles climb FIFA ranking to 38th after recent performances despite missing the 2026 World Cup ticket.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have recorded a small but encouraging rise on the global stage, climbing three places to 38th in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Wednesday.

The improvement comes on the back of two competitive fixtures played within the month. Under coach Eric Chelle, the Eagles delivered a dominant 4–1 victory over Gabon in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup playoff. They later battled the Democratic Republic of Congo to a 1–1 draw in the final but unfortunately fell 4–3 on penalties, ending their journey to the World Cup.

Although Nigeria failed to secure a ticket to the 2026 mundial, the team’s spirited performances were strong enough to push them higher on the FIFA table. The Super Eagles now have 1,502.46 points, placing them fifth in Africa.

Across the continent, Morocco maintain their lead with 1,713.12 points, followed by Senegal in 19th place globally with 1,648.07 points. Egypt sit 34th on 1,520.68, while Algeria are just ahead of Nigeria with 1,516.37 points.

The new ranking serves as a positive sign for the Super Eagles as they look to rebuild and regain their dominance in African football.
