The Emir of Kano has launched a sharp critique against Nigeria's governing class, blaming them for deliberately stunting national development.

A powerful voice has called out Nigeria's ruling elite for holding the country back. The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, delivered a stinging critique at a public forum in Lagos.

Speaking at the 15th anniversary of the Enough is Enough Nigeria group, the former Central Bank Governor did not mince words. He stated that the political class has treated public office like a personal family business.

According to him, this selfish mindset has led to deliberately missed opportunities for national development. "Public office is about themselves, their families, and people close to them," Sanusi asserted, "not about the country or the citizens."

He challenged this entrenched culture, reminding the audience that the nation ultimately belongs to its people, not to politicians. Every citizen, he argued, holds a piece of Nigeria and has a duty to contribute positively.

Sanusi described the current national structure as one plagued by division. He pointed to ethnic rivalries, religious conflicts, and a relentless pursuit of personal gain as major barriers to progress.

His central message was a direct appeal to the younger generation. He urged Nigerian youth to reject this dysfunctional system and come together to articulate a new vision.

He called for a united front across all social and religious divides. The goal, he said, must be to build a new Nigeria that realizes its true potential on the global stage, a nation fundamentally different from the fractured one they inherited
