A Nigerian woman, Kemisola Mustapha, has stirred widespread conversation online after publicly appealing for a second wife for her husband, citing the impact of her ongoing cancer treatment on her marriage.
Mustapha, a trader and mother of three, made the request in a video shared on her TikTok page. She explained that her health struggles began in 2024 following a cancer diagnosis, a development she says has significantly affected her physical strength and ability to fully participate in marital life.
According to her, the illness has placed strain on certain aspects of her marriage, particularly intimacy, prompting her to consider bringing another woman into the family.
She stressed that the decision was motivated by concern for her husband’s happiness and a desire to protect the stability of their home.
In the video, Mustapha described her husband as deeply supportive, revealing that he had sold most of his properties to cover her medical expenses and remained emotionally and financially present throughout her treatment.
She disclosed that she had been searching for a suitable co-wife for over nine months, explaining that she was looking for someone of good character—peaceful, loving, faithful, and willing to care not only for her husband but also for her children and herself.
“This request is from the depth of my heart. My mind is completely open to it,” she said, noting that her condition has limited her physically and sexually, leaving her husband deprived in some areas of their marriage.
Mustapha revealed that she briefly paused the search after another woman warned her that a new wife might view her illness as an opportunity to wish her harm. Although the warning initially caused her to step back, she said she later resumed the search after careful reflection.
She was quick to clarify that her decision was not rooted in fear, despair, or thoughts of death. “I am not dying. I am not giving up anytime soon,” she stated, adding that her ultimate goal is to restore peace and happiness to her family.
She also disclosed that her husband initially opposed the idea of marrying another wife but eventually agreed after several discussions. According to her, the decision was formalised through a legal undertaking.
Outlining her expectations, Mustapha emphasised that any potential co-wife must be loving, well-educated, well-raised, and capable of giving her husband peace of mind while maintaining harmony within the family.
