The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and former Benue State governor, Senator George Akume, has reportedly married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The development became public following a Facebook post by Abraham “Double-D” Dajoh, who identified himself as a member of the Akume family. In the post, the family formally announced and welcomed Queen Zaynab as Senator Akume’s new wife.

“We, the entire Dajoh Family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the statement read.

The family also expressed gratitude to supporters of Senator Akume and urged them to continue standing by him. The message included goodwill wishes for the Christmas and New Year seasons.

Queen Zaynab was further welcomed to Benue State, often referred to as the Food Basket of the Nation, and to Mbakor, described as the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation.

“Welcome to Benue State, Welcome to Mbakor; the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation, and welcome to the Dajoh family, the home of your darling husband. Welcome home, Queen Zaynab,” the family added.

The marriage has drawn widespread public attention due to Queen Zaynab’s previous union with the Ooni of Ife, one of Nigeria’s most revered traditional rulers.

She married Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi on March 12, 2016, in Benin City, Edo State, before the marriage ended in August 2017.

Senator Akume served as Governor of Benue State from 1999 to 2007, completing two terms in office. He later represented Benue North-West Senatorial District in the Senate and was appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation in 2023, positioning him as a key figure in Nigeria’s federal administration.
