Adeniyi Kayode, the driver in a deadly Lagos-Ibadan crash, has appeared in court as trial begins over the fatal accident
Adeniyi Kayode, the driver linked to the fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two close associates of professional boxer Anthony Joshua, has appeared before a Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State.
Kayode, aged 46, was brought before the court on January 20 as legal proceedings officially began in the case.
Prosecutors charged him with four offences. These include dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s license.
The court granted the driver bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties required to meet the bail conditions. The case was then adjourned to January 20, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Investigators said it was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
Anthony Joshua survived the crash. However, his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives.
As of the time of reporting, journalists and legal representatives were present at the Sagamu Magistrate Court, awaiting the commencement of proceedings.
