Nigeria’s Super Eagles now know their next hurdle at AFCON 2025, a knockout stage with Mozambique in the round of 16 as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
The last-16 pairing was confirmed on Wednesday following the conclusion of Group E and F matches, which determined the four best third-placed teams that progressed to the knockout stage.
Algeria topped Group E with a flawless record after defeating Equatorial Guinea 3–1, while Burkina Faso secured second place with a 2–0 victory over Sudan.
In Group F, defending champions Ivory Coast mounted a dramatic comeback from two goals down to beat Gabon 3–2. Cameroon also edged Mozambique 2–1, a result that allowed the Mambas to advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
Nigeria had already sealed top spot in Group C, recording emphatic wins over Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda to finish the group stage with maximum points.
That dominant run ensured the Nigeria Super Eagles would face a third-placed qualifier in the round of 16, with Mozambique eventually confirmed as their opponents.
