A fresh Zamfara bandit attack has left at least 30 villagers dead in Anka LGA, sparking deep concern across the state.
Residents of Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area are currently in mourning. A brutal terrorist raid on Thursday, February 19, has reportedly claimed the lives of no fewer than 30 people.
The attack was well-coordinated and ruthless. According to those who escaped, the terrorists arrived on motorcycles and quickly surrounded the entire community. By blocking all exit points, they ensured that the defenceless villagers had nowhere to run.
Once they had the village cornered, the gunmen began shooting indiscriminately. Witnesses described a terrifying scene where houses were attacked for hours. Aside from those killed, many residents were forcefully taken into the nearby forest.
By Friday morning, the atmosphere in the village remained tense. While many are confirmed abducted, several other residents are still missing, leaving families in a desperate search for their loved ones.
What makes this tragedy even more bitter is the timing. The massacre occurred just 24 hours after a high-profile security event in the state.
On Wednesday, the Minister of Defence, Major General Christopher Musa (rtd), was in Zamfara to launch 25 new armoured vehicles and advanced surveillance drones.
These tools, provided by Governor Dauda Lawal, were meant to crush the banditry that has long plagued the region. However, this latest bloodshed shows that the road to total peace in Zamfara remains a difficult one.
