The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially ushered in a new leadership team. In a peaceful and unanimous vote on Tuesday, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike was elected as the State Chairman, with Hon. Chukwudi Nnadozie taking the role of Secretary.

The 37-man executive committee emerged during a heavily attended state congress held at Okpara Square in Enugu. National observers from the party praised the exercise as a model of transparency and credibility, noting that it reflected the unity now existing within the state’s political landscape.

Governor Peter Mbah, who attended the congress, described the gathering as a "big family" affair.

He noted that the integration of various political factions into the APC was not just a move of convenience but a "real marriage" aimed at the development of Enugu.

The Governor used the platform to highlight the tangible benefits of connecting Enugu to the federal center. He credited President Bola Tinubu’s economic courage for the increased revenue flowing to states and the stabilization of the Naira.

Notably, he pointed out that Nigeria’s foreign reserves have hit the $50 billion mark for the first time in over a decade.

Mbah listed several major projects currently benefiting the state due to this federal alignment:

  • Aviation Hub: The concessioning of the Enugu International Airport and cargo terminal to private investors.
  • Railway Expansion: Federal approval to complete the railway line from Aba to Enugu.
  • Energy Potential: Plans to bring a high-pressure gas pipeline to Enugu within 18 months to unlock industrial potential.
  • Regional Growth: The establishment of the South East Development Commission.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Dr. Chukwunweike, pledged his team's total commitment to ensuring the re-election of both Governor Mbah and President Tinubu.

He remarked that the Governor's brilliant performance would make the coming elections a success for the party.

Former caretaker chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, also addressed the crowd, celebrating the "indivisible broom" that the party has become under Mbah’s leadership.

With the new leadership now in place, the APC in Enugu is bracing itself to transform these administrative gains into votes at the next polls.
