Enugu Police have cracked down on phone snatchers and drug dealers in recent raids across the state capital.
Residents of Enugu can breathe a bit easier as the State Police Command continues its aggressive push against street crime.
In a series of coordinated raids, security operatives arrested four suspects and recovered several stolen items, including mobile phones and illicit drugs.
The crackdown began on the night of March 1, 2026. Police officers from the Central Police Station (CPS), working alongside local Neighborhood Watch members, stormed a notorious hideout along the Holy Ghost Rail Line.
During the operation, two suspects, 20-year-old Nnachetam Didiugwu and 22-year-old Ogbu Maduabuchi were apprehended.
The duo, who reportedly have no fixed address, are accused of specializing in snatching bags and valuables from unsuspecting passersby during the evening hours.
The police recovered four mobile phones of various brands, Honour, Vivo, Tecno, and Itel along with wraps of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects have already confessed to the crimes.
In a separate move on February 28, the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad raided another spot at Eke Obinagu in Emene.
This led to the arrest of 25-year-old Eze Chukwuemeka and 25-year-old Isiaka Musa. A large quantity of suspected cannabis was also found at the scene.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has praised the officers for their proactiveness. He reassured the public that the Command remains committed to clearing criminal elements out of the state to ensure the safety of all residents.
Investigations are still active as the police look to track down more accomplices. Once the files are ready, the suspects will be charged in court. Meanwhile, the authorities are urging citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious movements in their neighborhoods.
