The Nigerian creative and biking communities are in deep mourning following the untimely death of Orowole Kolapoz, widely known as Kola Onifoto.

The 32-year-old photographer and travel influencer passed away on Monday morning, March 2, after a tragic motorcycle accident in Lagos.

Kola’s death has sent shockwaves through social media, especially because he had shared his excitement about his journey just hours before the incident.

On Sunday, he posted on Facebook that he was embarking on his very first solo bike trip outside Lagos, with Akure as his destination.

"Big shout out to those who have ridden their bikes to every state... My eye see wheeen," he had written, acknowledging the challenges of long-distance riding.

The accident, described as a lone crash, reportedly happened later that Sunday. Kola was first rushed to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) emergency unit at Ojota for urgent care. He was later moved to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba as his condition worsened.

Despite the prayers of his fans and the efforts of medical personnel, the vibrant young man succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday.

Since the news broke, Facebook and Instagram have been flooded with emotional tributes from friends and followers. Many described him as a passionate adventurer who inspired others to chase their dreams.

One follower noted how Kola had only recently celebrated getting his new motorcycle in January.

Friends who were at the hospital shared heartbreaking accounts of how they hoped for a miracle that never came. "We prayed, we cried but death had other plans," one friend wrote in a touching post.

As of the time of this report, the Lagos Sector Command of the FRSC has not released an official statement regarding the exact cause of the crash.
