Court filings show Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg discussed a joint OpenAI bid after a thaw in their long-standing rivalry.
Indications have emerged that the long-standing rift between tech giants Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has thawed significantly.
Techcrunch reveals that new court documents released on Friday reveal a friendly exchange between the two CEOs, a stark contrast to their previous public disagreements.
The messages, filed as part of Musk’s legal battle against OpenAI, are dated February 3, 2025. They show Zuckerberg extending an olive branch regarding Musk’s government efficiency drive. In the text, the Meta boss commended the progress of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Zuckerberg went further to assure Musk of safety measures. He confirmed that Meta teams were on high alert to remove any content threatening or "doxxing" DOGE staff members.
It was a clear sign of support during a time when Zuckerberg appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast to criticize corporate culture.
Reacting to the gesture, Musk showed appreciation and quickly pivoted to business. He asked if Zuckerberg would be open to joining a consortium to bid for OpenAI.
While Zuckerberg suggested a phone call to discuss the matter, reports indicate he eventually declined the offer. The texts confirm that despite past tensions, the two billionaires are now willing to explore common ground.
