A mood of celebration turned into one of fear and confusion in Bauchi State. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Rabiu Habibu Wanka on January 8, 2026. The arrest happened just a day before his daughter's wedding.

Family members revealed that the incident occurred shortly after Wanka observed his prayers in Kuntum, Bauchi Local Government Area. Masked operatives whisked him away in the presence of his children and community members.

The distress did not end with the arrest. About two hours later, roughly 20 operatives reportedly stormed his residence. The family claims the agents conducted a forceful raid without presenting a search warrant.

During the search, personal belongings were seized. Items taken included mobile phones, laptops, ATM cards, and even food items prepared for the wedding. The house, once filled with joy, was left in disarray.

The following day brought more anxiety. Security personnel returned and took the entire family in for interrogation. They were held for hours before being released following the intervention of a community leader.

Since the incident, the family says they have been denied access to Wanka. They remain unaware of his exact location or the reason for his detention. Desperate for answers, the family has approached the Federal High Court in Bauchi.

They have filed a lawsuit seeking his immediate release and damages for rights violations. However, the DSS is yet to respond to the court application, leaving the allegations against him unknown.
