A cloud of mourning hangs over the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom following the sudden death of a father of three, identified simply as Herbert. The incident occurred barely a week after another Nigerian mother of three passed away in the country.

Herbert, who lived in Thornaby, was found dead in his apartment. Reports indicate he passed away in his sleep, marking a tragic end to a difficult period for his family.

What makes this loss even more painful is the timing. Sources reveal that Herbert died on the very day his father was being buried back home in Nigeria. He had been unable to travel for the burial but had reportedly given his all to ensure his father had a befitting farewell.

The situation took a darker turn as it was his young children who discovered his lifeless body. His wife was away at the time of the incident. He leaves behind three young kids, the youngest being just eight years old.

Benjamin Kuti, a former president of Nigerians in the UK, confirmed the sad news on social media. He has appealed to the community to rally around the grieving family.

A fundraising campaign has since been launched to assist the widow with funeral costs and the repatriation of the remains to Nigeria. As of the time of this report, a little over £2,600 has been raised towards a £7,000 target.

This latest tragedy comes on the heels of the death of Omotayo Abioye, a 40-year-old Nigerian mother who lost her battle with cancer on April 5. The back-to-back losses have left the community in shock.
