Security operatives have neutralized a bandit and rescued a kidnapped victim during a tactical operation in Enugu State.
Security operatives in Enugu State have recorded a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crimes. Troops deployed for Operation UDOKA successfully raided a kidnapper's hideout in Udenu Local Government Area, neutralizing one suspect and rescuing a hostage.
The operation was launched in the early hours of April 3, 2026, following a distress call. Local vigilantes from the Ezimo Community had alerted the police at the Obolo Division after tracking the movement of the criminal gang.
The police swiftly involved the military, prompting soldiers from the 82 Division Garrison and Sector 1 to mobilize.
Upon arrival, the troops encountered fierce resistance from the bandits. A shootout ensued, forcing the gang members to scamper for safety.
One suspect was gunned down during the exchange, while others fled into the surrounding bushes with possible injuries.
Following the firefight, the soldiers conducted a thorough search of the area. They discovered a victim who had been held captive by the gang. The rescue operation also yielded several exhibits, including six mobile phones, a power bank, a torchlight, energy drinks, and clothing items.
Authorities have since handed over the body of the neutralized suspect and the rescued individual to the police for further processing.
Meanwhile, the military has assured residents that a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is currently underway to ensure peace returns to the community.
