A prominent activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has called on the Federal Government to immediately arrest controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
The demand comes on the heels of a viral video where the clergyman appeared to defend bandits ravaging the country.
In the widely circulated footage, Gumi addressed the ongoing security crisis with a strong defense for Fulani herdsmen. He declared that the armed groups are an inseparable part of the nation.
He stated that herdsmen are going nowhere, insisting that Nigerians must learn to live with them.
Reacting sharply to the clip, Adeyanju took to his Facebook page to condemn the cleric's stance. He argued that anyone who sympathizes with terrorists should be treated as one.
The lawyer warned that such utterances only fuel the security crisis. He noted that Gumi’s words and actions clearly promote terrorism in Nigeria.
Adeyanju did not hold back in his assessment of the system. He stated that people like the embattled cleric only thrive in a nation without a functional government.
To curb this trend, the activist urged security agencies to swing into action. He stressed that arresting Gumi would serve as a strong warning to others who enable violent criminals.
