NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket To South, Opens Way For Southern Candidates like Obi

NDC National Convention zoning 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has made a major move ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party has officially zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.

This crucial decision was reached at the party's National Convention. A motion to zone the ticket was proposed by Afam Victor Ogene, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbaru Constituency in Anambra State.

Delegates at the convention overwhelmingly threw their weight behind the motion, giving it the needed approval.

However, there is a specific condition attached to this zoning arrangement. The presidential ticket is zoned to the South for a single term of four years only.

Once that four-year term is completed, the presidential ticket will automatically shift to the North. This rotational agreement ensures that both regions get a shot at the highest office.

This resolution has immediately changed the political landscape for the party. It paves the way for Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, to step forward.

He and other aspiring candidates from the South can now proceed to purchase the party's presidential nomination form ahead of the primaries.

It is hard to ignore the timing of this decision. Obi and a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently defected to the NDC. Their arrival has significantly boosted the party's profile.

With the ticket now zoned to the South, the stage is perfectly set. There is a strong expectation that the Obi-Kwankwaso duo will fly the party's flag in the 2027 presidential election.
