A tragic end has met a 37-year-old Virginia mother of three. Angel Whitaker was allegedly killed by a man she trusted, after he lured her to another state with the promise of a better life. The painful death leaves behind three children: Braiden 18-years, Daizy 17-years, and Christopher 12-years.

The suspect, 59-year-old Donald Pennington, reportedly offered her an assistant manager role at an auto parts store in West Virginia. Whitaker accepted the offer in January and relocated.

The pair had been romantically involved since they met at a Bristol auto shop in 2018. After her move, Whitaker moved in with Pennington. But the living arrangement quickly turned sour.

By April, her family lost all contact with her. Her sister, Angela, officially reported her missing on May 4. Police later discovered that the relationship had become so strained that Whitaker had moved into a local hotel just to escape the tension.

Pennington initially claimed that Whitaker showed up to work drunk on April 17. He told officers he drove her home, only to find her gone when he returned from his shift.

However, a chilling witness account shattered his story. On May 12, Pennington’s ex-girlfriend met with investigators and delivered a shocking revelation. She told them they would never find Whitaker because he had murdered her.

The ex-girlfriend revealed that Pennington confessed to "snapping" after Whitaker allegedly threatened him during an argument. He reportedly grabbed her by the throat and choked her until she stopped breathing.

To prove his crime, Pennington allegedly showed the ex-girlfriend a photo of the lifeless body taken from the victim’s own phone.

The cover-up was calculated. Investigators say Pennington soaked Whitaker’s phones in bleach and destroyed the SIM cards. He then bought several bags of concrete at a hardware store and drove 18 miles to bury her body in Bastian, Virginia.

Police deployed cadaver dogs at the burial site, but the remains have not been recovered. The ex-girlfriend also handed over her phone to authorities, admitting she had deleted messages from Pennington about the alleged murder.

Pennington was arrested on May 13 and is currently held at the West Virginia Regional Jail. He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and concealing a body.
