FG Failing on Insecurity, Bishop Mamza Tells Tinubu

Catholic Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza addressing journalists in Yola on FG failure to tackle Nigeria insecurity crisis

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, says the Federal Government is not doing enough to stop the wave of killings and kidnappings across Nigeria.

‎He spoke to journalists in Yola during the Chrism Mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. The Bishop, who has led the diocese since 2011 and serves as Second Vice President of SECAM, said President Bola Tinubu and the security chiefs must move from promises to action.

‎Lack of seriousness

‎Bishop Mamza described the government's response as slow and weak. He said leaders are neglecting their core duty to protect lives and property, and the result is hardship for ordinary Nigerians.

‎"Why are killings still happening when the government claims to have taken security measures? This clearly shows a lack of seriousness," he told reporters.

‎He noted that security takes the largest share of the national budget every year, yet communities remain unsafe.

‎Plateau, Borno worries

‎The Bishop pointed specifically to Plateau State, where recent attacks have left families mourning. He also referenced the Borno State Governor's disclosure that Boko Haram insurgents have regained control of three local government areas.

‎He asked pointedly: "Despite security being allocated the largest portion of the national budget, we see no meaningful results... Where is the federal government and the security forces?"

‎"Nigerians are tired of excuses. We need action, not promises," he added.
