Police arresting suspect after New York stabbing at Penn Station injured five people

Panic broke out at one of the busiest transit hubs in the United States on Sunday evening. Five people were injured in a stabbing rampage at Penn Station in New York City.

The attack happened shortly after 7 p.m. on June 7. The Fire Department of New York confirmed the incident, providing a breakdown of the victims' conditions.

One person suffered serious injuries. Two others sustained moderate injuries, while the remaining two had minor wounds.

Authorities have assured the public that the danger has passed. An unidentified suspect is now in police custody. Law enforcement sources say the attacker is believed to be homeless and emotionally disturbed.

An Amtrak spokesperson confirmed that Amtrak police officers responded swiftly to the scene. They managed to apprehend the suspect and bring the chaotic situation under control.

A photo shared widely on social media captured the dramatic moment of the arrest. It showed a group of police officers pinning the suspect to the floor of the station.

Witnesses say the scene was pure terror. Brandon Norwood was waiting for his train home when the violence erupted near Track 1 in the NJ Transit boarding area. He watched as the suspect stabbed a person, triggering instant panic.

Norwood said the moment the victim screamed, everyone started running. People flooded out of the station in fear. He had to help a fallen person up from the ground to keep them from being trampled or attacked. He noted that it all happened so fast and admitted the memory will stay with him.

A station worker, who chose to remain anonymous, described a gruesome scene. He received emergency calls to shut down the area. When he arrived, he found two wounded men and floors covered in blood.

The worker said one victim had bandages around his head and looked severely hurt. Another appeared to have a scratch on his neck. Despite the shock, the worker expressed relief that the attack was not deadlier.

He stressed that such violent incidents are rare in that part of the station, a place where people simply come to catch their rides home.
