NSCDC Edo Command officers rescue 15-year-old kidnapped girl Glory Odigie in Ewohimi after N800,000 ransom demand

Benin City – Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Edo State Command, have rescued a 15-year-old girl abducted in Esan South East and arrested two suspects connected to the incident.

The victim, Glory Odigie, was freed on Sunday during a tactical operation in Oghu community, Ewohimi, three days after she disappeared.

NSCDC spokesperson, DSC Efosa Ogbebor, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Benin City.

According to the Command, Glory left her family house on June 19, 2026, to buy a phone charging cord within the community. She did not return home.

Her elder brother, Mr Odion Odigie, reported the case at the NSCDC office after the family received a call from unknown persons.

The callers claimed they were holding the teenager and demanded N800,000 for her release. They also warned the family not to inform security agencies.

Ogbebor said NSCDC intelligence officers immediately commenced tracking and narrowed the location to a hideout in Oghu, Ewohimi.

The team moved in and rescued the girl unhurt. Two suspects were picked up at the scene.

The suspects were identified as Freedom Saturday, 16, and Thankgod Oriabor, 21, both from the same community.

Both men are currently in custody at the State Command headquarters. Ogbebor said investigation is ongoing to determine their roles and possible accomplices.

He assured residents that the Corps has increased patrols in Esan South East and urged parents to report missing persons early instead of negotiating with criminals.
