Tunisia have sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi after just one game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Carthage Eagles were beaten 5-1 by Sweden in their tournament opener on June 15, and the Tunisian Football Federation moved within hours to end Lamouchi's time in charge. It is being reported across major sports outlets as the first managerial casualty of this World Cup.

Lamouchi, 54, had only taken the job about five months ago. Reports note he won just one of his last five matches in charge before the Sweden defeat.

The heavy scoreline in the opener forced the federation's hand. The loss was described as "sobering" and "humiliating" in early match reports, with Sweden running away with the game.

Fans are split. Some say it was the right call after such a poor result, others call it a panic move with Japan coming up in just five days. That debate has dominated football pages since the news broke.

Tunisia are not new to this kind of mid-tournament change. The team also dismissed Henryk Kasperczak during the 1998 World Cup.

What next? Initial reports from GOAL and BBC News Pidgin tipped former Sunderland forward Wahbi Khazri, who is on the technical staff, to take interim charge for the Japan game on June 21.

Other outlets, including Bleacher Report, later linked former coach Mondher Kebaier with a return for the final group games.

The federation is expected to confirm the interim boss in the coming hours.
