Bauchi State farmer-herder clash Darazo LGA Lanzai community violence

Violence has claimed at least seven lives in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, after a deadly confrontation between farmers and herders escalated into full-scale community destruction.

The trouble reportedly started when suspected herders attacked farmers who were working on their farmland at the outskirts of Lanzai community.

What followed was swift and brutal and by the time the dust settled, lives had been lost, homes had been burned, and two communities were left in fear.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, who addressed the public in an official statement on Thursday.

According to the police, news of the initial attack spread quickly through the area and triggered a fierce backlash from local youths who were angered by what had happened.

The youths reportedly moved on Dosho a settlement largely occupied by Fulani herders and set parts of the community on fire.

When the violence finally ended, about 50 huts had been reduced to ash, and several household belongings had been destroyed along with them.

Seven people were confirmed dead. Six others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at medical facilities. Authorities did not immediately specify which side suffered more casualties, but the losses cut deep on both ends.

Security forces have since moved in to stop things from spiralling further. The police deployed tactical teams and operatives to both Lanzai and Dosho, while the Violent Crime Response Unit was also mobilised to strengthen the presence on the ground. Patrols have been stepped up across the two communities and the surrounding areas.
