Angelique Kidjo Honoured With Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

History has been made in Hollywood.

Beninese music powerhouse Angelique Kidjo has officially been honoured with a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame, a recognition that cements her place as one of the most influential voices in world music.

The five-time Grammy winner received her star in the Recording category. With this honour, she becomes the first African musician and the first Black African artist ever to earn a spot on the famous Hollywood boulevard.

The award is a celebration of a career that has spanned decades. It recognises not just her music, but her role in taking African sound, culture and stories to the global stage.

According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Kidjo was selected for her outstanding artistry and her lasting impact on the music industry across continents.

Announcing the honour, Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, described Kidjo as a true global icon whose influence cuts across generations.

"The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome Angélique Kidjo to the Hollywood Walk of Fame," Martinez said.

She added, "Angélique Kidjo’s extraordinary artistry and global influence have inspired audiences across generations and continents. We are proud to honour her as the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognising her remarkable contributions to music and culture around the world."

Born in Ouidah, Benin Republic, Kidjo started her journey as a young girl with a powerful voice and big dreams. Today, that dream has turned into an extraordinary legacy.

Her catalogue speaks for itself. She has released 18 acclaimed albums and won five Grammy Awards, making her one of Africa’s most decorated musicians.

For years, she has used her music as a bridge. Through Afrobeat, funk, jazz and traditional Beninese rhythms, she has introduced the world to the richness of African heritage.

Beyond her solo success, Kidjo is also known for her high-profile collaborations. She has worked with some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Nigeria's Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and Mr Eazi.

On the international scene, she has shared the stage and studio with global icons like Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel and John Legend.
