Kwara Monarch Oba Moses Oyinloye Dies Days After Release From Kidnappers Hold

There is mourning in Igbesi Land, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, following the death of its traditional ruler.

The Onigbesi of Igbesi Land, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, has passed on. His death came just days after he regained freedom from kidnappers.

The revered monarch died in the early hours of Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Family sources who confirmed the sad news said the king took ill suddenly. 

According to them, he suffered a brief illness and was rushed to the hospital for urgent care. He later died at the hospital.

His death has thrown the entire community into shock and grief.

It will be recalled that the traditional ruler was abducted on August 22. Armed men had invaded the Igbesi community and whisked him away.

He spent five days in captivity before he was freed.

Security operatives secured his release during a coordinated operation around the Elerin and Ijomu-Oro axis of Kwara State.

At the time, residents celebrated his return, hoping he would recover fully from the trauma.

Sadly, that joy has now turned to mourning. 

As of press time, the family is yet to announce burial arrangements. The Igbesi community is said to be in a sombre mood over the loss of their king.
