Abia Police Arrest Father and Three Others For Trying To Sell 16months Baby

The police in Abia State have arrested a father and three other persons over an alleged plan to sell his own child.

The suspects were picked up for alleged child trafficking and conspiracy involving a 16-month-old baby girl.

The State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the incident.

According to him, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Gender Unit, made the arrest on September 7, 2026.

The operation took place at a hotel in Obi community, Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.

Afolabi explained that the case was first reported at the Central Police Station, Umuahia. It was later transferred to the SCID for thorough investigation.

Preliminary findings revealed a shocking detail.

Police investigation established that the little girl is the biological daughter of one of the suspects arrested.

Further investigation also showed that the alleged crime was driven by greed.

The suspects were said to be planning to traffic the child just to make money.

The police, however, moved quickly and rescued the baby unhurt.

The 16-month-old has now been placed in the protective custody of the Ministry of Women Affairs.

Meanwhile, the four suspects are still in police custody as investigation continues.
